形態特徵

• An evergreen bush or bushy tree, 5–20 m high, crown deep, dense, rounded to oblong, with ascending spreading limbs, bole forking low, freely sucking in old trees, bark grey-fawn, finely fibrous fissured, surface powdery, twigs sparsely short hairy, glabre
• . Leaves cross oval to ovate, with cordate base, acuminate, entire or shallowly dentate-serrate, glabrous above, thinly covered with short yellow hairs to nearly glabrous, 2.5–27 cm by 1.5–24 cm, sapling leaves much larger, palmately nerved at base, secondary nerves 6–8 pairs; petiole sparesely short-hairy, slender, 1–32 cm long; stipules pubescent.
• Panicles protruding from crown, finely pubescent, 20–50 cm long; bracts oval lanceolate, short hairy; pedicels 2–3 mm, finely pubescent; sepals laneolate, pink-red, shortly stellate pubescent without, the lower the longer, 6–10 mm long; 4 lower petals entirely red, the lower the longer, 5–7 mm long, the posterior one cross oval, red, yellow-tipped, 4.5–5 mm long; gynandrophore finely, more or less patently pubescent at lower part, 4–7 mm; stamens 1.2–1.5 mm long; ovary densely pilose, shorter than 1 mm; style 1 mm;
• fruit 1.7–2.5 cm by 2–2.5 cm, pink. Seed whitish.

分布

• 台灣 : In South Taiwan.
• 世界 : In open country and especially watersides and humid situations, a vigorous component of secondary forest. The bark and leaves are poisonous, the bark produces a weak fibre.
